Use this guide to choose a coating system by substrate, exposure and service condition. It is a selection reference, not a bid-ready specification. The full guide is below, and a PDF copy is free to download.

Download the PDF: the file is attached at the end of this page.

For bid documents: use the companion Section 09 67 23 Resinous Flooring guide specification, or ask ACC for a specification tailored to your project.

Reader's Note

Use this guide to quickly select an interior resinous flooring system by facility area, floor use, and service condition. It is a selection reference for architects, engineers, facilities/asset managers, and project teams; it is not a bid-ready specification.

For bid or construction documents, use the companion CSI 3-part specification, Section 09 67 23 - Resinous Flooring, or contact ACC for project-specific guidance.

Overview

1. Purpose

This guide summarizes commonly used resinous flooring systems for interior concrete floors and exterior/elevated pedestrian decks: 100% solids epoxy systems, water-based epoxy systems, urethane cement systems, and a reinforced waterproof deck coating. Systems are organized by resin family and duty level so they can be used across institutional, municipal, commercial, industrial, water and wastewater facilities.

2. How to Use This Guide

  • Start with the Quick Locator Index if you know the facility area or floor use. Find the applicable system in the schedule below.

  • If you know the service condition, go directly to the system table and match the Condition and Typical Locations. Light Duty = foot traffic and light carts; Moderate Duty = heavy foot traffic, rolling loads, frequent cleaning; Heavy Duty = thermal shock, impact, hot-water washdown, chemical exposure.

  • Use Surface Preparation, Coat Schedule, and Total Build for budgeting, work-order planning, and contractor pricing. Flooring coats are applied at coverage rate (SF/gal or SF/kit); Total Build is the nominal system thickness.

  • Contact ACC to confirm project-specific exposure, slab moisture-vapor condition, existing coating condition, color/aggregate selection, slip resistance, or full CSI specification requirements.

3. Basis of Design

Products scheduled herein are manufactured by Tnemec Company, Inc., 123 West 23rd Ave, North Kansas City, MO 64116, (816) 483-3400, www.tnemec.com, and are listed as the basis of design for the performance, appearance, and warranty characteristics described. Substitution requirements are set out in Article 2.1 of Section 09 67 23.

4. Not Covered in This Guide

Typical Locations are intentionally broad so the guide can be used across building and facility types. Wall, ceiling and structural coatings are maintained in the companion Architectural Interior & Exterior reference; process-facility systems are maintained in the ACC Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment references. Vehicular traffic deck coatings, secondary containment linings and immersion-service floors are not covered here; contact ACC.

5. General Application & Warranty Notes

  • Follow the current manufacturer product data sheet for substrate, ambient, dew-point, humidity, ventilation, surface-profile, and application requirements.

  • Test concrete for moisture vapor emission (ASTM F1869) and relative humidity (ASTM F2170) before installation. Where results exceed the limits on the product data sheet, use a moisture-vapor-tolerant primer or base coat (Series 208 Epoxoprime MVT, Series N241 Ultra-Tread MVT or Series N242 Ultra-Tread S) as noted in the schedule, or contact ACC.

  • Concrete surface-profile requirements vary by system; confirm the specified ICRI CSP and verify surface preparation before full-scale work. New concrete shall be cured a minimum of 28 days unless the product data sheet permits otherwise.

  • Decorative quartz and flake systems: confirm color, blend, and finish texture with a field mock-up before full-scale application. Perform a mock-up to confirm an acceptable level of slip resistance and any anti-slip additive with the Owner/Architect.

  • Cove base, integral coving, terminations at drains and joints, and treatment of moving cracks are project-specific; detail them on the drawings or confirm with ACC.

  • Warranty terms vary by system and project; contact ACC or the manufacturer to confirm applicable coverage.
